10th Anniversary Exhibit:
Celebrating the Exhibits and Artists of Our First Decade

12/05/2016 - 04/08/2017

For more information about Informative Talks, Demos, and Workshops see below.

The Steamboat Art Museum was formed in December 2005 and presented its Opening Exhibition in the historic First National Bank building on December 23, 2006. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was gifted to the City of Steamboat Springs by its owner, Helen Rehder, who was a long time area rancher and artist.

Mrs. Rehder stipulated in her will that the building be preserved and used as a museum to promote the culture and heritage of northwestern Colorado. In 2010, the Steamboat Art Museum negotiated a 99-year lease on the building with the City.

Since the Opening Exhibition, which featured the works of past and present local artists, we have presented an Intaglio exhibit, a western art exhibit that included traditional cowboy and native American arts as well as paintings and sculpture, an international exchange with Mexico of the works of Martha Chapa, an exhibit on loan from the University of Wyoming Art Museum featuring their collection of the works of E.W. (Bill) Gollings, surreal blacklight sculpture by Don Woodson, and cartoon art by Jerry Palen, Ace Reed, andJ.R. Williams.

Subsequent exhibits included the landscape paintings of Clyde Aspevig and Scott L. Christensen, wildlife paintings of Ken Carlson, art quilts by David Taylor, western paintings by Jim Norton, landscapes and still life's by Quang Ho, a 50-year photography retrospective by Rod Hanna, paintings by Jean Perry and sculpture by Curtis Zabel, a local collection of Russian Art, photographs by Colorado Nature Photographers, and the still life's and etchings of Mark Thompson. Traveling exhibits have included Birds in Art, Exquisite Minatures, American Watercolor Society, and the 30th Anniversary exhibit of the Plein Air Painters of America.

In 2015 and 2016, we saw the paintings of nationally recognized local artist John Fawcett and western Colorado's Len Chmiel, followed by our current 10th Anniversary Exhibit.

Future exhibits include the Oil Painters of America national exhibit and the American Women Artists exhibit.

We hope you enjoy this incredible exhibit.
