SAM Plein Air Event

Join SAM for the week of Sept 23 – 30, 2017 when artists from around the country convene in Steamboat to paint our beautiful fall scenery. An Exhibit of the week’s works will be on display and  for sale in SAM through Nov 4, 2017. This event produces astounding works of art by artists of all ability levels, and creates a great level of camaraderie amongst the artists and patrons alike. It showcases Steamboat, the surrounding community and landscape through the unique light of artists’ eyes.

Save the Date:

Join us on Saturday, September 23 – 30, 2017, when artists from near and far convene in Steamboat Springs, CO for the Steamboat Art Museum Plein Air Event and Quick Draw. SAM is proud to host this event during the peak of the glorious Rocky Mountain fall season. This Plein Air Event is unique due to the friendly atmosphere of Steamboat, easy access to historical ranches, wild rivers, and abundant aspen groves, and the opportunity to participate with artists of all abilities. This non-juried event not only provides opportunities for emerging artists to develop their career, but we also attract several nationally known painters.

 

Eligibility:

Open to all artists,18 years and older. This is a non-juried event.

 

Entry Form and Fee:

The 2017 SAM Plein Air Event is open for artist registration until Sat, Sept. 16, 2017.

Entry fee is $35 per person for SAM Members and $50 per person for SAM Non-Members. Requested info includes the submission of your name and contact information and a bio/resume. The entry fee includes an Opening/Awards Reception and one ticket to the Quick Draw Event located at an historic ranch near town.

 

SAM Exhibition Details:

All artwork must be completed in the Steamboat area between Saturday, Sept. 23 and and Friday, Sept. 29, 2017. Canvasses will be stamped with an approved insignia on Saturday Sept 23, 2017. Only artwork with this stamp will be permitted in the Exhibition & Sale that opens on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017. All works must be available for sale, framed and presented in a professional manner, wired, or with suitable hanging device, by the artist. Museum staff will hang the exhibit. Artists can paint as many paintings as they wish, but will only be able to submit three (3) paintings for the Exhibit and Sale.

 

Sales:

This event benefits the Steamboat Art Museum, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, as well as the artists. SAM will retain 40 percent of all sales. The exhibit takes place in the Museum from Friday, Sept. 29 through Saturday Nov. 4, 2017. Payments for all work sold will be mailed shortly after the exhibit closes. Artists must pick up or arrange for shipping of all pieces not sold. SAM will not be responsible for return shipping costs or insurance costs.

 

Lodging/Transportation:

Artists are responsible for providing their own lodging and as well as transportation to and from Steamboat Springs, Colorado. If an artist needs assistance with lodging, please contact SAM (at) steamboatartmuseum.org. If SAM is able to work with a local lodging property or management companies and offer discount lodging, we will post information here and let the registered artists know.

 

Awards of Excellence: 

First, Second, Third and 2 Honorable Mention Awards: with cash and sponsor prizes.

 

MainStreet Award of Excellence: The award given to the painting that best illustrates the unique character of Downtown Steamboat. The area considered  "Main Street” is from 3rd to 13th streets Oak to Yampa Street.

 

Historic Routt County Award of Excellence: The award given to the painting that best captures HRC’s mission to “preserve and to promote the historic character of Routt County communities and rural areas by saving the places that tell the story of our county and its people.”

 

Community Agricultural Alliance Award of Excellence: The award given to the painting that best represents, captures, and celebrates the preservation the rich agricultural heritage of the Yampa Valley.

 

Yampa Valley Land Trust Award of Excellence: The award given to the painting that best represents the legacy of the conservation of natural, scenic, agricultural, historic and other public and private open land resources for the benefit of this and future generations.
